dannyd55 I love this because it's so personal, and it's in the great tradition of accessible confessional singer-songwriter pop. Beautifully structured and arranged with great skill. It's bittersweet for me to listen to.

lyrics

Another day is done, now she's tired and she's waiting for the bus to leave.
She's looking from the window as she sees him cross the street in the pouring rain.
He smiles but she looks away,
Now it's impossible to say
What might have been.

He slowly takes his seat, his clothes are all still dripping from the storm outside.
She's watching from the backseat as he sits there, he's dreaming of a better life.
She wishes he would turn his head,
But she's left wondering instead
What might have been.

Now he's knocking on the door, his mother waits inside and greets him lovingly.
He's lying when he says that he is fine, he asks himself "where did it all go wrong?"
He thinks his life is in a mess,
Now he can only guess
What might have been.

Her boyfriend slams the door, another argument is done, she wants to run away.
She's scared and she's alone, and she doesn't really know how it got to this.
She just wants to disappear,
And she thinks, as she wipes away a tear,
What might have been.

And now she's sitting in her chair reminiscing about moments passed.
She thinks about her life, her eyes are closed and now she smiles.
Remembers times so long ago,
But now she knows she'll never know
What might have been.
